Expert care for your outdoor containers and terrace plantings — from thoughtful plant selection to season-end winterization — so your outdoor spaces look their absolute best, year-round.

Plant Selection & Pot Design

Choosing the right plant for the right location is the foundation of a thriving container garden. We assess light exposure, microclimate, and aesthetic goals before recommending any species. Sun-loving plants will struggle in deep shade, and shade-preferring varieties will scorch in full sun — placement matters as much as plant choice.

Once plants are selected, we design arrangements with balance and visual cohesion in mind. A thoughtful mix of heights, textures, and growth habits — trailing, mounding, and upright — creates dynamic compositions without appearing cluttered or overcrowded. Every pot is designed to look intentional and beautiful from every angle.

Proper Watering

Outdoor containers dry out significantly faster than garden beds, particularly in summer heat. We water deeply to ensure moisture reaches the lower root zone where it's needed most, rather than only wetting the surface. Timing is equally important: we prioritize morning watering to reduce the risk of foliar disease, which is heightened when foliage remains wet overnight.

We carefully monitor soil moisture between sessions, allowing it to partially dry out to prevent root rot while never letting it become fully parched. During heatwaves, we increase watering frequency and watch for signs of hydrophobic soil — when the growing medium pulls away from the edges of the pot, it can repel water entirely, and intervention is required promptly.

Fertilization & Nutrition

Unlike plants in the ground, container plants depend entirely on what we provide. Regular watering and rainfall leach nutrients from potting mix quickly, making consistent fertilization essential. We apply appropriate formulations based on plant type and growth stage to support vigorous growth, vibrant foliage, and prolific flowering throughout the season.

Grooming, Pruning & Training

Keeping container plants tidy and productive requires ongoing attention. Our grooming service includes deadheading spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering and prevent premature seed set; pruning back leggy, damaged, or dead stems to maintain a clean shape and improve airflow; and pinching back annuals such as impatiens and petunias early in the season to promote fuller, bushier growth. For tall or vining plants, we provide appropriate staking and support structures to keep them upright and healthy.

Soil & Pot Maintenance

Healthy soil is the cornerstone of container success. We ensure potting mixes promote proper aeration and drainage, and we recommend refreshing a portion of the growing medium annually to replenish depleted nutrients. Drainage holes are inspected and kept clear to prevent waterlogging. We also apply a layer of organic mulch — such as bark or moss — to the surface of each pot to retain moisture, moderate root temperature, and reduce the frequency of watering needed during periods of intense heat.

Pest & Disease Control

During each visit, we inspect plants closely for signs of common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Early detection is critical — infestations caught quickly are far easier to address. We also maintain pot hygiene by removing dead leaves and organic debris from the soil surface, which reduces the conditions that attract pests and harbour fungal disease.

Environmental Management

Container plants are uniquely vulnerable to environmental changes because they cannot adapt the way in-ground plants can. We rotate pots regularly to ensure even light exposure and prevent lopsided growth. During heatwaves, we reposition containers to more shaded locations and adjust watering accordingly. In high winds, vulnerable pots are moved to sheltered spots to avoid breakage and stress.

As autumn arrives, we evaluate which plants are cold-hardy and which require protection or indoor overwintering. Proper winterization planning minimizes seasonal plant loss and sets the stage for a flourishing display come spring.
